Our Athletics Session!

Hey Guys! Yesterday, we had an Athletics Practise! Our Coach was called Coach J! Firstly, we played a warm up game called Cups and Saucers. I was in the group called Cups. We had to turn the cones around to make it look like a cup. If your in the group called sauces. you have to make it look like a plate.

After that cool warm up game, we walked over to the other side of the court.
We were practising on listening to his clap and then running forward looking straight. We lied down on the floor looking straight. When we heard his clap, we started running!

Then he put us in a pair of 2. I was with my friend Meleane. Check out her Blog by clicking Here! We both stood on a line opposite each other. We played Rats and Rabbits. I was on team rabbits. Meleane was on team Rats. It was simple. When Coach J called out Rabbits. The rabbits had to turn back and run to a yellow line behind us and the team rats had to chase us. If coach J called out, Rats. Rats had to turn back and run to the yellow line behind them and Team Rabbits had to try and chase them and tag them.

Then we started playing Relays! It was so much fun! We got into 4 teams. There were about 6 or 7 people in those 4 teams.

Then we started racing each other! It was so cool! We encouraged each other and Has so much fun!
I can't Wait for our Next Athletics Session!

Mmm, That's Tasty Reflection

Hey guys, Today i'll be telling you about what we did Yesterday for reading. We read a Level 3 School Journal June 2012. In this Journal was a Article called Mmm, That's Tasty! By Neville Gardner, Page 25. It tells you about your tongue.

The things that help you taste are things called papillae. Inside each of these papillae's are groups of tiny taste buds. You have about 10 000 taste buds in your papillae. There are about a hundred cells called receptors, they taste the food and send messages to the brain. There are about 5 receptors that they taste and send to the brain which is: Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter and umami (Savoury). The brains job is to judge whether they like it or not and if you want to keep eating your food.

Are you a Picky eater? The receptors work very hard! When we grow and get older, the receptors start to change taste. If you smoke, your taste buds will start to die. It will also die when you drink hot tea, hot Milo or hot drinks. Children are very picky eaters because they have more taste buds than adults. Saliva does a very important job. When you eat chips or chicken and you didn't have any saliva inside your mouth, the food would be hard to taste. Taste and Smell work together to help you find out the taste. On a cold and winter day, you might get your nose blocked, this stops you from tasting food and the flavour starts to taste a bit different.

We also did a experiment with Jelly beans, this was to help us understand how taste and smell work together. It's called "The great jelly bean challenge". You have to find some jelly beans, put on a blind fold or cover your eyes. Get a peg or block your nose with your hands and get a buddy. The buddy will put a jelly bean in your mouth while you cover your eyes and block your nose. You then have to try and guess what flavour the jelly bean is. When you cover your nose, it's harder to taste the food or jelly bean! Here is some pictures we did in our class:

I hope you enjoyed this reflection I made! Hope you learned something from it and try out the challenge! See you guys Next time! Bye!

Yesterday, New Market School came to our school to get some flax. In Maori it's called: Harakeke. We met and introduced ourselves! Me and my friends made a new friend! Her name was Anya. She had a sort of Brunette colour to her hair. She had freckles on her cheeks. Her height was about up to my neck. We went down to the mat and did the Samoan Mili Mili Mili.

Samoan Language Week

Samoan Language Week!

Talofa Lava, Last Week was Samoan Language week. Their was lot's and lot's of cool things. The first day of the week was Monday. The Samoans had a Rotation in the hall. It was also the Start of The Taste of Samoa. While they were rotating, they chose jobs they wanted to do to show the rest of May Road School. Tuesday was our turn at rotating. When we went down to the hall, their were 5 stations.

We were put into groups of 5. My groups first station was Station number 2. We learned about their Coconut and how they eat the Coconut. They gave our group some coconut pieces and as soon as it entered my mouth, I could already taste the coconut juice. After a few minutes past, their was a bell, It rang to signal the groups to move to the next station. In Station 3, we learned about some things that Samoans have in their home. When the bell rang, we went to Station 4. In station 4, this time we learned about a type of hot food they eat in Samoa. They said you can call it chip;s like fish and chips. It was like peeling potatoes. The bell rang and off we went to Station 5. Our Station which was station 5, we learned about Koko. We learned about how to make it. We also got to have a drink as a treat. When the bell rang, we walked to our last station which was station 1. We learned about Samoan accessories they have in Samoa. After the bell rang, we lined up and went back to class.

After a day past, It was Thursday. In the morning, we went down to the court for the Samoan Independence Ceremony. After the Ceremony, we got to eat a Samoan Breakfast called Sua fa a'i. It had some Banana's in them. We took some and ate it in the classroom. It was So yum! My friends said it was too sweet but I say, Sweet is my thing! The last day of the week was Friday. Friday was the Samoan Assembly. The Assembly was So Perfect! The dances were put together really well! The Samoan Language week really encouraged me to love Samoa! I Love Samoa!
